Reasons for Infertility

Infertility is when a couple has been trying to conceive for quite some time without any luck. There are a lot of conditions that causes infertility to both men and women. Some are simple while other are a little more complicated. Reasons for infertility can range from the couple’s lifestyle, type of work environment, hereditary predispositions and sometimes even hygiene.

For most men, the common reason behind being infertile is having a low sperm count. There are also a number of reasons behind this, but only some are medical. Usually, it involves the condition called variocele and having sperms that are shaped abnormally. The lifestyle that a man chooses can also affect his sperm count. Most of the time, active smokers, excessive drinkers and those who engage in illegal drugs have a lower sperm count than those who don’t. Even wearing tight pants and soaking in a hot tub more often than usual can lower the sperm count. But of course, there are remedies available to help correct this problem.

In women however, since they don’t produce sperm, ovulation is one of the main factor that causes infertility. Being in stressful situations, age, and other cervical conditions are usually the possible reasons of infertility in women.  A woman’s age is a huge factor. If she is thirty years old and above, it is more likely that her ovulation has slowed down. The age group that has the best chance for ovulation is during their late teens and early twenties. It is during this time that they ovulation capabilities are at its peak and is very ripe for conception. Previous and existing medical conditions can also cause infertility in women. Prior infections, scar tissue, anatomic conditions, abnormal uterine lining, masses in the uterus and obstructed fallopian tubes may also hinder women from conceiving.

Since infertility affects both men and women, the first step is to find out which one of you has the problem. With the long list of reasons for infertility, it may be possible that both of you needs the extra medical attention. There are already a lot of medicines and supplements available in the market today to help couples having problems with conception.
